During the COVID-19 pandemic numerous organisations have used infographics to keep people up to date with statistics related to the event.

Some are more successful than others functionally, aesthetically etc. Some have a particular bias geographic (Johns Hopkins) or political (e.g. WHO the absence of Taiwan in their statistics).

We may use raw data to inform the works that are creating so discovering where COVID-19 data is gathered, held and displayed is useful for our research.

Several universities are involved in COVID-19 info graphics. Perhaps the most well known are the Johns Hopkins and Oxford University ( Our World in Data) sites.

Of course WHO has information via its rather difficult to read Situation Reports and slightly laggy Regional Dashboard

Of the numerous journals & upper end magazines: The Lancet and The Economist are probably the most well known. Many news outlets also have their own ‘tracker’ sites including: Channel News Asia and the NZ Herald

Specialist info graphic sites are WorldoMeter and Information is Beautiful

There is also an interesting open source site Nextstrain which:

“aims to provide a real-time snapshot of evolving pathogen populations and to provide interactive data visualizations to virologists, epidemiologists, public health officials, and community scientists. Through interactive data visualizations, we aim to allow exploration of continually up-to-date datasets, providing a novel surveillance tool to the scientific and public health communities.” (Nextstrain – About)

The are a few open source sites Malaysia’s Centre for Applied Data Science’s Corona Tracker site is a useful one with 460 volunteers from across the globe involved including data scientists, medical professionals, UI/UX designers, fullstack developers as well as the general public.

We’ll keep updating this post as new useful sites are added.
