Drury School and AwhiWorld have partnered together to celebrate the spirit of place using AR and mobile devices.
The programme creates a platform for students to identify and celebrate the special places and spaces the contribute to the spirit of their school.
Kim Newall’s AwhiCreatures have taken up residence in very special spots around the school (identified by a whole school exercise). These augmented reality creatures reside in specially built houses and are activated through mobile devices.
Students have created site and creature specific poems, stories and creative audio works. They have also designed creature houses and given the creatures their own site specific skins.
The programme is supported by Papakura Local Board and Auckland City Council and will be ongoing through next year so look out for more posts over the coming months as we find creative ways to weave the creatures into the curricula.
