Drury School teachers and AwhiWorld partnered together to celebrate the spirit of place using a mixed reality based mobile apps and a number of creative workshops.

The ‘My Special Places’programme created a platform for students to identify and celebrate the special places and spaces the contribute to the spirit of their school.file-24-09-16-5-24-09-pm

Kim Newall’s AwhiCreatures took up residence in very special spots around the school – spaces and places identified by a whole school research exercise. Students created site and creature specific poems, stories and creative audio works. They also designed creature houses and gave the creatures their own site specific skins.

These creatures resided in the specially built houses and were activated through mobile devices. Older students then guided parents and younger students around the special places where the creatures resided for Calf Club Day and onwards.

The programme was supported by Papakura Local Board and Auckland City Council’s Enviroschools Programme.
